  • (Resolved) [HOU-4363]V-Ray Sun not animating

VRay Sun Light, the time does not seem to animate. Geographical Position tab, Time -> Hour.
I can set it to a different hour of day and it works as expected, but is not animating.

    Hey vla_dunev

I have the same problem.. in Vray for Maya you have the "Hour Value" which is missing in Vray for Houdini. Or do I miss something?

    Cheers

Hello guys, thanks for the feedback. I've reported the issue.

tobiasroesli , the Hour value is in the "Geographic Position" tab under "Time" group.

chakarov yeah I know In Maya the value which combines hours, minutes and seconds is called "Hour Value" which is very handy and simple for animation. You can see it in the screenshot above.

Thanks for looking into it Cheers

I just saw this, posted on this topic but will join this thread. I made a test file showing the issue. I tried both keyframe animation and PDG wedges. See attached

I have managed to find a hacky workaround. By using the Houdini skylight it is possible to use its coordinates and copy onto a null to drive the vraysun. It gets it done for the 24hour cycle but the skylight uses a dropdown for months rather than integers so its a bit more involved if you want a whole year animation...
