  • Vray / Houdini Crashing when rendering

    Hello.

I am having a major problem with my project at the moment. I already rendered 5 sequences / cams in my project with no problems.
Everything is set for the last sequence but for some reason I am not able to render anything. When I want to open the render preview Vray/ Houdini just crashes.
When rendering to disk Vray starts with the first buckets and stops. The frames are still running but the preview is still black and nothings happening.
I rebuild everything from scratch in a new scene only loading the caches back in but i am not able to get it to work again. It worked fine for almost 2 weeks and for no reason stopped working.
Plus I am on a deadline and need this to work asap. would appreciate any help with this!

    Hi Edwin,

Are you able to render simple scene? Does vray work fine, render simple geometry? If so, can you render 1 cache at a time to find out which one breaks? If nothing renders at all, could be an issue somewhere else.

We have a vray/deadline farm. I can help you out to render your project if needed. Shoot me an email silhouetteimages@gmail.com

hey, thanks for the response. I did some further testing and i figured the problem are not the caches but somehow my gpu. when i change the mode to cpu everything works fine and all the geo gets loaded/rendered. problem is it takes forever with the cpu. for some reason when i switch the mode back to gpu it crashes instantly / doesnt load anything. i opened an old project where i can render without problems on my gpu. what i dont get is why it worked for 5 sequences before and crashes now on the last one....any idea what could be the reason here?

nevermind, cpu is crashing too. the thing is when i press render in the vray frame buffer my cpu activity starts rising to its max and thats when the render process stops. even when i have only a simple cube in the scene the cpu activity starts rising to the point where the whole thing gets canceled. with the cube rendering on gpu works though.

          Hey edwin_fuhrmann1 ,

Could you share a file that crashes with us? If so, I'd look into it ASAP. There's a "Pack Scene" button under the V-Ray toolbar menu that you could use to collect the scene-related assets.

          Best regards!
