VRAY6 - very bad IPR Feedback

VRAY 5.20.24 August2022 build - good IPR Feedback.

Both scene build from scratch with simple for test.

So, how it going on? why the performance just seem like downgrade from the old one?

I'm not sure it's related to V-Ray6 specifically. I noticed a big viewport performance downgrade just like you've shown, in one of the later V-Ray 5 nightlies (I don't recall specific versions unfortunately).

Yes, you are correct, i doesn't noted in this thread that it's happen since vray5 after august2022 build ( i think so ) or maybe after that. but i tried to ask chaos team and dev but never got any answer about this. so i try to made a new thread again here to pin the issue.

      Regards.

Thank so much. And yeah. This maybe look like not impact issue but it will be opposite to feature they claim on the feature page.

especially for lookdev working with IPR it will be much effect.

And in my opinion this should be fixing.

            Dear all, hello.

            Thank you for the examples!
There is a difference in the middle phases when you fast navigate in the viewport, yes.
But not all changes are affected - changing light colors is working fine.

We will investigate this and inform back in the beginning of the New Year, when we are back to work.
The bug tracking number will be added to the thread description.

Enjoy the last moments of 2022!

            Best regards,
            TS

                Hi,

Isn't this due to the Light cache being used in IPR with V-ray 6? I also saw quite a performance drop in regular IPR (not Solaris), and it's just V-ray re-calculating the LC.

                Best,
                David.

                  Hi again,

If you test it with latest V-Ray 6 nightly builds from today on Houdini 19.5 you will see a difference.
Please confirm on your side too.
                  Waiting for it.

That's not the cause, at least not in Solaris.

                    V-Ray 6 LOPs Viewer

I recorded this video where I've turned off GI, turned off every basic feature, reduced resolution to 1/8th and the problem still persists. It almost seems like an issue with how V-Ray is responding to mouse inputs rather than a real performance issue. When you click and hold drag to tumble in the LOPs viewer, there is a long delay before V-Ray decides to update the viewport. If I mouse-click like a mad man while tumbling it responds on each mouse click.

                      Hi stehrani3d,

Could you share the build number used for the test shown above.
The best way to do it is from V-Ray > About V-Ray > Copy to Clipboard and paste here.

Tsvetomira, sorry I missed your reply about the nightlies above. I do not see any V-Ray 6 Houdini builds in the nightlies (only C4D, max, std), will I have to contact support?

Thank you Tsvetomira, I have access now. I just tried the latest daily build of V-Ray 6 and can confirm that the problem has been resolved! With the Crag test geometry it is now at least as interactive as Karma, maybe even more so.
