Is there a way to force V-Ray to keep texture maps in memory post render?
I am working on a scene with a lot of textures and its really tiresome having to reload them every time you start a render.

Depends which delegates are your switching from-to.
Texture cache is activated by default.
Solaris will keep the non-viewport delegate when switching back to GL-delegate.
If you switch e.g. to Karma, V-Ray delegate will be destroyed. There is no way to keep textures in this case.

I am switching back and forth from GL. I see the console say “loading xxxx.exr” etc when I start a new render. Maybe it’s not actually loading from disk?

If by any reason delegate was destroyed then reloading, if was not - then most probably textures are cached and not reloaded.
