  • 1 year of solaris/vray at Goodbye Kansas

We started using usd in production about 1½ year ago and started using vray in solaris about a little bit more then 1 year ago. Since then vray have done leaps in the implemenation and we are now only starting project in usd solaris. I wanted to share 2 of our cinematic trailers we have done with vray solaris (and a bit of karma). Thought it would be nice also for people to see that we believe this workflow is production ready

Thanks to the houdini vray team for amazing work this last year to make this possible!

Awesome indeed....little more to add other than I'd love to see more of the GoW one if it exists
When you say a year, I assume it was a year's worth of a rather large team of people creating these?

fixeighted here is the breakdown of god of war https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puGrZN9p6C4.

For the usd integration it has been more then 1 years work from our pipe/dev team, we pickup up vray for production a little more then a year ago. Each of these trailers take quite a good amount of very talended people, here on our webpage you can see some more info about it https://goodbyekansasstudios.com/work/god-of-war/

            Nice work guys!

We are a few months into building our own USD pipeline.
It's a big job, but we are hoping it will pay off.

                  Great work and great result!
LeoYfver General question, how have you guys dealt with QC final image sampling before sending them to the farm? Afaik rendering in hydra will use a different render method than submitting the jobs (uses progressive instead of buckets)?

Viewport is always progressive, but for production rendering you could setup bucket sampler with "Render Settings" node.

bdancer Thanks, I was more asking how do you check that your noise level is correct when using bucket sampler before sending the whole frame render, since the viewport is progressive, so I wanted to know how they went about that, if they had to send complete frames render to check

There is an experimental control you could use for that: Output -> Experimental -> Features -> Use Production Render Mode.
This will enabled possibility of using bucket sampler for the viewport (without IPR update though...).

Just testing this feature, it appears not to be picking up the render settings correctly, I can set the bucket renderers max samples to 1 and still get a clean image.
