We're currently doing last-moment de-instancing of all lights in scenes before passing on to rendering, but it would be much better to just have instanced lights working out of the box.
Pixar added support for rendering instanced lights in Hydra in USD 23.08 (= the build that ships with Houdini 20.0). From what I understand, render delegates need to evaluate instancing attributes on the light prototypes for this to work.
Is this something VRay could support?
