  • Light Cache files through husk

Im trying to pre calculate the light cache through husk but it looks like it's just partially completed? Im rendering a 360 camera and that could maybe the problem. If I bake the light cache in the solaris viewport everything looks correct, but with husk it doesn't.
    I'm using Houdini 20.5.370 and V-Ray for Houdini number:22768 hash:e515453 from 05 Oct 2024 01:29
    V-Ray Core 6.20.24 [423f9073] from 3 Oct 2024

    Hey RichardBlank ,

Is it possible that the RenderSettings primitive is missing the per-frame info needed for this to work? I'm not exactly certain what you mean by partially completed - missing files on disk, or the render process gets stuck?
I've attached my test scene in case it helps.

No the render settings prim per frame isn't missing. I have a lot of lights in my scene, could that be an issue with adaptive lights?

Hm, I've no clue at the moment.

When you say partially completed, does it show anything in the render logs - the "Building Light Cache ... " step should be getting printed every few seconds - does it reach 100%?

        Best regards!

And what I mean with partially completed, is that it looks like the light cache file is missing light information when Im rendering the image. And it differs from frame to frame. Most of the time it looks correct in the middle of the image and mostly on the sides you can see half completed buckets and full missing buckets.

Yes everything looks correct in the render log.

I see, thank you! I'll investigate - thanks for bringing up the 360 camera setup - it might be the cause behind it.
I'll ping you as soon as I know more.

                Hey RichardBlank ,

A simple scene doesn't seem to reproduce this for me.

I assume that you're using the V-Ray Camera Properties -> Dome Camera -> FOV 360, correct?

Also, could you please check if setting the Render Settings -> Options -> Lights -> Light Evaluation Mode to "Full Lights Evaluation" helps? I somewhat doubt it will make a difference but by the sound of it, it may indeed be an Adaptive Lights issue ... although there should be no difference between GUI rendering and Husk.

                Best regards!

Yes I'm using dome camera in the render properties.

It's a large interior scene with around 100 lights, smoke and fire and sss casting gi all over. Sadly we are not allowed to share any part of the scene or screenshots...

I'm getting promising results with Full Lights Evaluation.

                    Interesting, I see ...

I'll try with one of our interior scenes - hopefully the problem pops up.

Last question - are the lights positions/orientations, or any of their attributes (e.g. color, intensity, etc) animated by any chance?

                    Best regards!

No the lights is not animated in this scene. But we have animated lights in other scenes. The fire is animated and casts a lot of light.
