  • mantra and vray overscan

Vray adds the overscan to the resolution but mantra dont, with mantra you have to add the necessary pixels.

I prefer the vray way but the problem for us is that we mix alot of renders between mantra and vray and with the same camera we get the correct overscan but different resolutions.

Is there a way they could be matched up or somehow toggle vray rop to behave the same as mantra?

Aye, we were looking into this recently because of another forum post. We could not find a way to force V-Ray to do what Mantra does but I'll check again and ping bring it up to the dev team for a solution this time. My thinking is it shouldn't be that hard to do - those extra pixels are metadata in the exr in Mantra's case if I'm not mistaken. The output image resolution, if you were to discard the metadata, is not different between Mantra and V-Ray per se.
Anyway, I'll come back with more info once I know more.

    Best regards!

Gosho.Genchev got some rough eta? Just so I know if it's something I need to fix in our camera tools for now or if I can just chill some days.

          Hey, GoodbyeKansas , LeoYfver

the dev team added a parameter under the Renderer -> Options -> Camera called Overscan Mode. Setting it to "Inside" should produce what you're after - both the camera resolution and FOV matching the viewport bounds will be preserved. I'm crossing my fingers that you don't mind the limitation that is the Camera Window X/Y values need to be uniform - if you set X and Y to different values, you won't get the same field of view as the viewport.
The change will be available in tomorrow's nightly builds. As far as I could tell, the output matches Mantra but if I've missed something, please ping me so we can look into it.

          Best regards!
