  • [ HOU-2375 ] Add temperature parameter to lights

    Hi!

We would like to use accurate black body temperature on the vray lights in Houdini. In Vray for Maya there is a setting for it natively and we are missing it in Houdini.
We are looking into adding it ourselves but we are running into some issues.

We wanted to assign the temperature shader as a texture. This would be color managed and scientifically correct.
However not all lights support textures, like spot light. Also using this approach we lose the texture input parameter so artists cannot easily use temperature and textures at the same time.

Another approach would be to use the TMI mode of the color picker. That is not color managed however so no guarantee that the outcoming color will be correct.
We were also thinking about adding expressions to the lights and stuff but I figured more people would like to have this feature and the best implementation would come from you guys.

Is it possible to add this feature?

    Hi,

We also used to use it back in 3dsMax days, was pretty neat. would't mind having it too.
But currently using the color picker in 18.5 gives a perfect match, if the color picker correctly knows the exact color values of 3600K is another story, assuming it does, the rendered result is spot on visually and value wise.

Color picker input and transform are set to the same as the VFB in this example, and the light intensity is set at 1.
