  • V-Ray 6 for Maya, Beta - now available!

    Hi everyone,

Exciting day. We're launching the V-Ray 6 for Maya Public Beta.
We're inviting you to explore the new features and give us your feedback.

You can apply for the beta here.
Share your feedback in the dedicated beta forum.

Here's the highlights of this release:
    • V-Ray Enmesh - A tool for generating procedural geometric patterns, such as chain mails or knitted fabrics
    • Procedural clouds - the V-Ray Sun/Sky system can now procedurally generate the perfect cloud environment
    • Thin Film layer in VRayMtl - for realistic soap bubbles, oil spills and other similar effects
    • Finite Dome Light - a new ground projection option for IBL with blending control, allowing you to scale and move the Dome lilght.
    • USD Support - further improved with support for VDB shaders and streamlined data import and export. This release adds support for MayaUSD versions 0.17.0 and 0.18.0.
    • Performance boosts - V-Ray Environment Fog now renders up to 30% faster. The V-Ray Material has a new Illumination Mode to speed up rendering of translucent materials.
    • V-Ray Profiler - a tool for tracking how much time was spent calculating materials in your scenes. You can read more about it here.

    And many other additions, including:
    • V-Ray Decal now supports displacement
    • Better Chaos Cloud experience - The Maya interface is free for working on your projects, while V-Ray submits your scene for cloud rendering
    • Light Cache is supported in IPR (currently enabled with an explicit option in the IPR tab of the render settings)
    • VFB - new composition guides and spherical panorama support.

Find out more about the new features.

Note on ZIP BUILDS: Starting with V-Ray 6 we ship a single downloadable installation that installs V-Ray or produces the files for what was known as a 'zip installation' or zip build'. You no longer need to download a separate archive. The installer can produce the archive files when used with the -unpackInstall flag and from there on everything is as usual. We now call it a 'Portable Installation' and you can read more about it here.
