  • BRDF choice for different surfaces

Ive been wondering if people are mixing their BRDF choices for different shaders or sticking to GGX for everything?

Weve been using GGX for pretty much everything for our automotive work. (Leathers, chromes, glass all GGX) Its been working fine with good results, but Im curious what everyone else is doing.

I use GGX for everything too, but I always play with GGX tail falloff to fit the type of surface I aim at. This tail falloff control is one of my favorite Vray features that I miss in other engines.
For example, with Shiny metals I use 1.1 to 1.8 , while things like simple plastic or carpaint could use values like 2.4 or higher
and I don't think there is a reason for using any other BRDF type. With tail falloff you can control how GGX looks and you can achieve the looks of other BRDF types. Also, GGX is faster than other BRDF types if you try to match the same highlights.

Yup, I would stick with GGX. At some point we will probably drop the other types.
