  • Xgen Cache Rendering Best Practices?

    Hi all,

I'm new to using xgen in production on multiple shots. I have a single asset (a tail with xgen fur) that I'm going to batch render with V-Ray. Each shot is a separate Maya project. Each shot should have its own animated xgen cache. What is the best way to generate and render a unique xgen cache per shot while using a single xgen collection/description?

Should I be using VRScene as the Output Operation?

I had success farm rendering with a single test shot using the "File/Export Patches for Batch Render", inputting a frame range. But that does not give an option to save a specific file.

    Thanks!

I answered my own question... Using the File/Export Patches for Batch Render animation cache worked fine with the Operation/Render + V-Ray setting. I did not need to use the VRScene output. What did not work well was Maya's copying of xgen data to another project. My custom length map did not transfer over and I had to manually copy the correct /paintmap/length folder to the shot Maya project. But that is a Maya issue... Still trying to figure out the quirky xgen voodoo.
