  • Nparticles causing low CPU Usage

Anyone else experiencing low CPU Usage when using nparticles in their scenes? I created a rain system so that it will interact with a shoe I am rendering and when the nparticles are in the scene my cpu acts weird. It will only go to 10-20% usage and it takes an eternity to build the light cache maps and render. Tried it on both adaptive and bucket rendering, no go. Am I missing something?

Also, I have acquired Phoenix FD and would like to know if you guys recommend I use that instead for my rain. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

What V-Ray and Maya versions are you using? Can you get us a scene? I'll ask someone from the Phoenix team to chime in for rain setup with Phoenix question.

Hey, sure, so the possibilities with Phoenix range from setups such as this one with chunky meshed liquid: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2337...0559421134421/

... through setups where you can create small scale splashes in a manner similar to this setup: http://phoenixfd.cgrecord.net/2018/0...hoenix-fd.html

... to setups where you disable the rendering of the liquid Simulator and you can connect a particle shader to the liquid particles and render them as points, hollow bubbles or refractive splashes: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...m-Example:Mode

You can also plug the nparticles in the set of the Phoenix particle shader and render them with it as well in any of these modes. Just make sure to grab a Phoenix nightly, since this is a new change after 3.12 was released.

      Cheers!
