Vray fur area distribution not working

Hi,

For some reason the 'per area' distribution setting for vr-ray fur gives me this output (attachement).
Same result as per face basically. Vray next 40403 for maya 2018.

What are we missing or is this a bug?

It is expected behavior actually. V-Ray generates fur strands based on underlying geometry.
You can use the following approach to create even fur distribution for objects with uneven geometry:

Thanks for the reply. Yes that is what I did now. Only issue is that I had quite a dense mesh and even upping the per area distribution to 40k didnt give the desired effect

Try to increase the distribution even more and to decrease density color toward the black area. More extreme values in both direction should unify the distribution.
