  • Maya & Phoenix wave crash bullet time

    Hey guys,

I cant seem to make a new topic in the Phoenix forum so Ive got to post here. Its still Maya related though. We may have to create a car 360 which is at the end of a pier and surrounded by crashing waves, as in the attached image. It will be a frozen frame / bullet time effect (cutting edge) and the camera will at all times be inside the wave crash with the car, and the wave crash will almost totally surround the car. Our initial feeling was that wave photography on cards in Nuke was the best way forward, but I just wanted to check if anyone has had any success with rendering a high res wave sim in this way that holds up as a still. The wave will probably have lots of layering, motion blur, mist etc etc so there will be corners that can be cut, but does anyone think this is definitely a 2d solve or a 3d simulation Phoenix solve? Or even a mix of both?

    Hey,
Certainly this can be done using Phoenix but in order to look good in a close up you will need quite a lot of grid resolution and a lot of particles - so if you decide to take the 3d approach you should consider that it will take some time to render (though you can send the scene on the VRay cloud, which would help).
