  • Possible to render Atmospheric Effects only as Renderelement, not affecting Beauty?

    Hello,
when rendering Atmospheric Effects RE, the fog renders also into the Beauty pass.

I would like to get the standard Beauty within the same render pass (without any fog), for only having fog as an option in compositing.

Isn't it possible to get the clean Beauty together with "Atmospheric Effects" without the need of rerendering everything again?

    Thanks

This is not possible, when enabled Environment Fog will always affect RGB pass. You can quickly render Atmospherics on a separate pass however, you can disable GI and apply pure black material to all opaque objects. This will speed up rendering quite a lot and even as a separate pass you won't lose much render time on it.

thanks, yes. Or I could assemble the beauty from other passes.
I guess GI is still influencing atmosphere, when it uses "Scatter GI".

This might not be an option since EnvironmentFog usually affects some render elements like GI and Lighting for example.
So even though you could combine render elements with EnvironmentFog enabled, the result won't match RGB channel of render with EnvironmentFog disabled.
Of course if you are not looking 1 to 1 match, this may work for you so I guess it's worth trying it out.

We'll change that for the future, so that the volumetrics don't affect the Lighting and GI passes, so they'll only be written to the Atmospherics channel. This is already done internally, but we'll see if it can make it to an update/hotfix.
