This is really cumbersome now, I just had to search to find the node, it used to be in the Hypershade list if i remember correctly Other Textures, why was this changed? is really a step backwards . Im on Vray next update 1 Maya ,2018 build 4.12 windows 7
Hi Alex, I believe it was under Other Textures before Vray Next, probably why also Tharso couldn't find it, I guess changes where made in Next because the triplanar node is slightly different than before, I'm sorry I've been lazy reading the docs lately, too busy
but Create>Vray from plugin >texture>Vray triplanarTex is so hidden now, I'm aware of the Tab option proposed by TheScope and that's what I'm using now. Still it should be under other Textures otherwise there's no need for Other Textures tab which now contains only one node VrayPtex.
This is a bit harder for newer users coming to Vray, things should be in your face as much as possible.
And I'm still trying to understand the differences between the Triplanar nodes, they look the same except that Vray Next is Vray Plugin, don't know what that means, if you create in the hyperhade via pressing tab, the triplanar looks like the older one, does not show VrayPlugin name and vray Plugin type on top of Attr Editor.
The screenshot has the plugin node, which generates UI in a different (more generic and definition-driven way, instead of using a UI Template) - which is why it looks different. The regular (maya-native-templated node) should still be there. I have no idea what could have gone wrong on your end, and I'm out of the office until next week, but I'll ask someone to look into this.
In the meantime - can you tell me the exact V-Ray and Maya versions, and the OS?
And if you could try re-installing V-Ray and/or deleting the maya prefs folder and see if that helps?

OK, try looking for it in the 'other textures' category ( but not the V-Ray > Other textures category, instead - the Maya > Other textures category). Seems to be wrong, I don't know why, because we haven't done any changes there. I'll make a note to fix it.

Right, we found that this happened when we made the viewport preview for the triplanar. Apologies for that, something very minor was changed in addition that broke this.
And btw, there's a viewport preview for the triplanar node now
