The denoise feature and tool seem to work great, but the standalone tool seems to be a really terrible system hog to the point that even to kill it often requires using task manager. It would be great to see this developed a bit more so that it's feasible to run it as a background process without locking up the entire machine.

Are you denoising on CPU or on GPU?
Other than that, we could probably add an option to control the number of threads for the CPU, but you can always adjust the process priority in Task Manager.

The GUI of the standalone denoiser has a Hardware acceleration option. When enabled, it uses the GPU, and when disabled - it uses the CPU.
If you're using it from a command-line, the -useGpu=0|1|2 flag can be used (0 for CPU, 1 for the best GPU found on your machine and 2 to use all GPUs).

OK, I guess I did have that turned on and it completely cripples my system even with the memory allocation set to only 2Gb out of the 3Gb on my video card. Is there any particular reason to use GPU rendering over CPU with the tool though? Is the output the same? Using CPU output is much faster and does not lock up my machine.

The output is the same and using the GPU is faster by a lot. What's the CPU and GPU on your machine?

Thanks, we'll see if we can figure this one out.

Hello SonyBoy,
does this happen with any image you try to denoise even simple ones? Can you share some more info about them like the resolution size, do they have render elements and if "yes" how many. What OS do you use and if possible could you share one of those images so we can try to reproduce the issue here on our end?Last edited by shaio; 18-07-2019, 04:52 AM.Ivan Shaykov
