  • How to use vray mesh clipper?

Looked up the help but it only shows pictures.

How does one attach a mesh in Maya so that it is used by the vraclipper node?

    This doesn't seem to work.

With a mesh selected, creating a clipper object turns the selected mesh into a mesh-clipper. Otherwise you need to make some connections manually.
I'll make a note to improve the docs.

      Perfect, that works well.

Lastly - is there a way to only affect/clip the direct Sun light but not the sky node?
Currently, toggling on "affect lights" influences both the Sun and Sky.

(Edit: Obv render passes is a way but just wondering if it's possible to do in one pass)

I don't think I see the same thing. Can you show me and image or get me a scene?

Ok, so with attached pic - the sun sky system is utilised and it's cutting through a building creating a section.

As you can see it's very dark inside (as expected due to exposure difference).

To fix this dark, you can make clipper ignore lights. This will make the sky flood the interior as it'll be ignoring the clipping geometry and we get nice internal lighting - however the issue is we'll also get the sun spilling in too which is unwanted. For architects it creates unrealistic internal shadows because it's a section.

Just wondering if it's possible to get the clipper to allow/block certain lights and not others?

Do you have GI enabled? If not - does it help if you enable it?
The Clipper would cut away light sources that have geometry (like the sphere light, the rect light, etc - there's an option for it), but not the sun.
