  • Possible to use multiple environment volumes?

I'd like to use multiple environment volumes, but the field under Overrides>Volumetrics>Environment Volume only accepts one node.
Is it possible to connect multiple, say a VrayEnvironmentFog and VraySphereFade in conjunction?

    Thanks in advance.

No, however, you can set the VrayEnvironmentFog as a Volume material (Shading Group Attributes>Volume material) in a given object (make sure the applied VRayMtl has black opacity) and use it to control the fog. Use the VraySphereFade in the environment overrides normally.

      Thanks for the reply.

Yeh, that's the way I've set it up for now.

What I'm trying to do is render out animated portions of my scene to lower render times using the sphere fade but the fog isn't getting matted, but I guess that's just the way the fog is rendered.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "the fog isn't getting matted"?

Sorry, I meant that I can't get a clean alpha that ignores environment. For example if I had no fog and had a VraySphereFade on an object, the surroundings would be pure transparent (also without any heavy calculation) but with the fog on it isn't possible to isolate the object itself without getting the fog between the camera and the object.

I understand. Sorry to say you can't disable the alpha contribution of the fog. What you can do is render the fog and geometry separately and compose them in post - this way you would preserve the needed alpha.

is it still not possible to combine multiple env fogs in Maya? in 3ds max its easy, gizmos + background and Maya it does not work even with Vray Next?
