  • Multiple Dome Lights in one scene

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering about having multiple dome lights in one maya scene. A client from us wants to have an object in different locations and it would be perfekt for me, if I could do that in a single rendering with different lightselects.
So my thoughts were to have one hdr map for each domelight (-> 3 domelights in the scene). Create a lightselect for each domelight and render it all together. Later in comp I could separate it in the different layer and locations.
Problem that I have, just one domelight is showing up in the lightselect passes. Is there an oppertunity to do that in any way?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

It won't work like that. If it's for preview purposes, I guess you could try using ExtraTex passes for the HDRIs. Otherwise, you might need to render multiple times.

      Thank you for your answer.
How exactly do you mean, using Extra Tex passes for the HDRIs? should I create an exclusive set with the objects, I want to render and apply the texture override only to the dome light?

Add an ExtraTex pass and plug the VRayHDRI (mapped as spherical) and it should work without excluding/overrides.

Ah I see what you mean, ok. Unfortunately I need the behaviour of the shader (reflect / spec...). Is there no other way or work around to do that? We have an huge amount of renderings and it would be great to have a way to render it just once.
          Thanks in advance
