  • Outputting 32-bit EXR with Deep

    Hi!

I've been trying to figure out how to render a 32-bit EXR with Deep data from V-Ray, and can't seem to get it to work or find any information online about why it doesn't.

I'm setting the Bits per channel to 32 bits (float) for both OpenEXR options and VRST options (not sure if that's necessary), but it still outputs a 16-bit half-float EXR when using Deep. If I'm using a regular multichannel EXR, it's a 32-bit as expected.

    I've tried this in both Maya 2019 with V-Ray 4.30.00 and Maya 2020 with V-Ray 4.30.01.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing here and someone here who can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

    /Magnus

There may be something the matter, I'll investigate and report back.

Thanks for the report. The issue is not present in V-Ray for Maya 4.12.02 (update 1.1), it seems something broke along the way. I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-9425) for developer investigation.

The fix is now implemented in the latest stable nightly V-Ray for Maya build. Feel free to update.
