  • Q: Vray Proxy/Alembic UV's?

    Hi all,

Just a quick question, I hope.

We tested some Alembic imports that contain multiple UV sets in the file, e.g. uv1, uv2 & uv3.
But the Proxy info just shows one set, and is always called uvset1.

Is there a limitation to the Alembic format regarding uv's(couldn't really found useful info on specs), or is this a limitation on the Proxy import?

    cheers!

    Hi Rob,

Alembic files containing multiple UV sets can be imported as proxies and you should be able to see those sets listed in the VRayMesh file info.

Can you give us some more information like: V-Ray version, where the alembic files are exported from and ideally share a an .abc to examine?

      Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. Busy schedule atm...
Alembics are exported from Houdini 17.5 into a Vray proxy in Maya 2019.2, with unfortunately quite an old version of Vray. Cannot check atm, but one of the first releases. (update 1?)

But good to know it's possible, we'll look into it on the Houdini side as soon as we have time. It could be a export issue.
Will report back on this, but we're in the final stages of the project, so no real time to do side-tests atm

      cheers!

Hello Rork , uv attribute should be a type vector3 or Float(Texture Coordinate) otherwise it might not be found, also if the name is different than uv* you might need to set them in AlembicROP>Geometry>Additional UV Attributes.

I've checked it one more time, vector3 is recognized as color set and float(texture coordinates) as uvset.

            Hi,

I passed it on to the Houdini artist, and this will probably solve it.

Thanks for this, it's greatly appreciated
