During the export process for Substance painter I am using the vertex colour for the ID map when baking in SP.
Is there a way to export VRayVertexColor with the FBX export?
Color sets with vertex painted colors are exported in FBX and can be used in Substance as an ID map. However, I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. Could you elaborate a bit? What exactly are you trying to achieve with the VRayVertexColor map?
I'm trying to work out how to export FBX from Maya the with vertex colours using the VRayVertexColor node.
I can then use that to create the ID map in SP.
At the moment I have to save out a second scene and apply lambert materials then paint vertex information and export.
The main scene is all setup with vray materials and would be great if I can just use that.
The information from the vertex painting is saved in a Color Set (Mesh Display>Color Set Editor). The VRayVertexColors node is used only to render such color sets. I presume you were confused because of the lack of preview. The color set information will be baked to an ID map (by using vertex color) in Substance, regardless if there is a VRayVertexColors node or not.
So, if you've already vertex painted your VRayMtl objects, export them directly to .fbx and bake the ID map. If not, apply a lambert material for previewing purposes beforehand.
I have just worked out how to view vertex colors on top of vray materials in the viewport. So I can use the same model without applying lamberts destroying my vray material setup.
All you need to do is apply your vertex colour, then> Mesh Display>Colour Material Channel and set it to None. You can then use the toggle Display Colors to switch between.
never used vertex colours before so bit new to me.
