I've noticed that the colors of objects in node-based cryptomattes changes, presumably when adding objects to a scene. This means that it's not possible to start rendering a sequence until the scene is finished, as adding objects will cause cryptomatte colors to shift in any frames rendered after new objects have added. Normally of course it's best practice to finish a scene before commencing a render, but if I want to add objects to a scene after a render has started (e.g. to add objects that are not in camera or visible during the beginning of a shot), is there any way to "lock" cryptomatte colors to their existing objects, or is this allocation intrinsically dynamic?

This does not seem to happen in a simple scene. What V-Ray and Maya versions are you using? Could you send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can take a look? Mention this thread in the e-mail. Otherwise, you may try switching the ID type to "V-Ray user attribute" and manually set attributes to objects, though it may be tedious.
