  • Vray Next Render Crashing HELP

    Hello everyone,

Currently running Maya 2019. SP3 with Vray Next 2.2 and I have a quick question. I am working on a scene that gets about 75% of the way rendering and then Maya just quits. No logs, error window, nada. Even if I change the noise threshold to .05 and render it continues to crash w/o errors. I did notice that if I lower the thread count usage to 10, instead of 12, the render gets further and it will finish or crash. Im sure im not running out of memory since I have 64GB and my scene is only using 15gb, max.

Anyone running into this issue as well. Or anyone have some advice on how I can get all my cores to successfully render my scene? Really throwing me for a loop here.

Does this happen on a specific scene? Does it happen by simply starting rendering? Could you send it to support@chaosgroup.com so we can take a look? Mention this forum thread in the e-mail.

      Hello Aleksandar,

I will try to upload the scene and all its contents a bit later. Will a wetransfer link be ok? Should I include all the textures the scene is recalling as well to see if you guys can replicate the issue?

Yes, WeTransfer is fine. And yes, do include the assets as well.

          Hello Alexsandar,

I have sent your team the scene that is causing the issue. Thank you again. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Thanks for the provided scene. I did a bit of testing but could not reproduce the crash. It seems to render out fine. Is there a reason for limiting the thread count? Does it happen if all threads are used (value 0)? What kind of CPU does your workstation have installed? Does this happen on other CPU intensive scenes? Could you test this? Have you set a limit for the CPU thread usage (in Windows or via an environment variable)? Also, try to torture test the CPU via a benchmark to check out the possibility of a hardware issue.

              Aleksandar,

Thank you for testing the scene. Here's the answer to your questions:

              1. I limited the thread count in the Vray settings per a suggestion I saw on a previous vray forum.

              2. Happens only of all threads are used (value 0)

              3. Currently running 8700k.

              4. Second scene that happens to me. First one was a Hulkbuster scene armor render.

              5. I have not changed cpu core or thread counts limits through Windows.

              6. I will try the torture test on it.

Maybe it might be that my CPU has a slight overclock at 4.7ghz. I will try removing the OC and render again to see what happens.

Yes, overclocking is not stable and is not recommended, so try resetting the clock's speeds and voltage to their defaults and try again.

Welp looks like that may have done it. Yeah render is a bit slow but not much. Going to stick with default settings no OC. Thanks for the help everyone.
