  • Faking underwater caustics?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to recreate an animated texture like the one outlined in this Arnold tutorial: https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/disp...%3A+Pool+Scene

Would anyone have any tips on how this could be done, in Maya 2020 and using V-Ray Next GPU?

I'm trying to create a cube of water, that'll look like it's a snapshot from under the ocean, there's very early WIP shots attached below. I've got a cube, with a VrayRectangle light that I'll project the animated texture through, with an environment sphere that'll create some exterior reflections. The top of the cube will then be deformed to look like a water surface (I still need to figure that bit out if anyone has any tips?

    Many thanks for your time!

Ok, so I scrapped the idea of doing it procedurally in Maya. This was a winner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ6f...ture=emb_title

I exported out the fractal noise animation from After Effects and plugged it into a V-Ray Rect Light, that did the trick!
