  • fails to render with warning "// Warning: V-Ray : No lights in the scene! // "

I have a rather simple scene that renders fine, and a character that renders fine, but when I import or reference the character into the scene Vray warns" // Warning: V-Ray : No lights in the scene! // " and halts the render.
I do have lights in the scene.
I've even added extra ones to no avail.
    any Ideas??

Does the character scene render fine on its own? Also, how are you importing the character - by merging or via .vrscene? Do send the scene via the contact form so we can take a look. Mention this thread in the message.

      Hi Aleksandar.
I seem to have resolved the issue.
I think it was more of a Maya problem than a vRay problem.
the individual elements render fine on their own.
I originally referenced the character into the environment scene, which is where I encountered the problem.
I tried unloading and deleting the referenced character and then imported the character into the scene...same problem, so the character must not have been the issue(no lights in the character scene anyway).
finally, I restarted Maya, imported the environment into a new scene, then referenced in the character....renders like a champ now, which is why I assume it was a Maya issue.
Thx for getting back to me, and happy new year!

Just some feedback on this.... I encountered the same issue and traced it to having accidentally entered an extra digit into the frame start number field in the Render Settings Animation rollout that created a start frame that was much higher than my end frame number. This generated the same "// Warning: V-Ray : No lights in the scene! // "

When I corrected the start frame number, the error went away and the scene rendered fine. Bizarre.
