  • Rectangle Light Alpha

    Hey guys,

I'm using an EXR file as a texture on a Vray Rectangle Light in Vray Next for Maya 2020, and I was wondering if there's a way that I can use the texture's colour as an alpha for the light?

E.G. I'm using a Single Quasar light from the Grey Scale Gorilla lighting pack and the black of the texture shows up in the light, rather than the desired effect of only the white of the texture showing.

    Thanks for any help.

Normally, there is a separate alpha texture slot in the VRayLight called 'Rect Tex A', which seems to have an issue at this point, which I will further investigate. Something that should work is to create a composite, where you mask the texture with its alpha and use the result as the light's texture.

EDIT: It seems to be a confusion of mine, the slot works fine, it simply controls how the light shape is seen in the alpha. Otherwise, a general principle to mask VRayLights emission is masking textures with the black color, which does not radiate light.
