  • How to create curved light with DIRECTIONALITY ?

    Hey all,
is it possible to curve the rect light ? If not, can directionality be applied to VRay LIGHT MESH / LIGHT MTL ?

It would be very useful in situations where you have curved false ceiling or a staircase.

    Have a great day,
    Karol

    Hello Karol!!

You can give an example about the result you are looking for, maybe it can be done by another workflow!

Hey Carlos! It is you! I am a big fan of you channel! Great to see you here.

For example to create a light along this curvature and to have an additional control over its directionality.

I know it is not the best example but I just had this render open now.

        Helloooo Karol!!

What a joy to know that my tutorials have been able to help you !! you make me happy !

Great now I understand you, what you can do is create a light or light mtl mesh and give it a lot of intensity and to imitate the effect of directionality you can put the light mesh inside a curved box with a very fine aperture to let the light pass

I use this simple technique quite often in movies, like Carlos said. model the polygon curved shape with normals pointing down and apply a Vray mesh light.

Hey guys, sorry the the late response,
Unfortunately with this technique you still cannot control the lights's directionality but I will definitely try it the next time I got to make some curved lighting!

There's no Directional attribute like in an area light but you can still replicate the "recessed light" look in architectural renders playing with the intensity of the mesh light.
