Maya 2022.1 comes with MayaUSD 0.10.0 - a version of the MayaUSD plugin that's newer than what V-Ray supports and that's why you see the error.
Otherwise, V-Ray will work fine in 2022.1, it just won't work with MayaUSD.
The 2022 version (with no updates installed) comes with MayaUSD 0.8.0, which works with V-Ray. The 0.9.0 version is also compatible.
I can suggest either moving back to 2022 (with no updates) or manually uninstalling MayaUsd 0.10.0 and then manually installing MayaUsd 0.8.0 or 0.9.0 (you can get the installers from Autodesk's MayaUSD github page: https://github.com/Autodesk/maya-usd/releases ) until we release an update that supports 0.10.0.
