  • V-Ray Material Override from Material Library?

to overcome vray materials not showing up in viewport 2.0, im first applying a lambert shader and then adding the V-Ray Material Override attribute. When adding a vray material, i only get the option to add a node, but how can i add a material from the vray material library like for example grass or concrete?

V-Ray materials do show in Viewport 2.0. Check this docs page.

according to the article anything newer than 2018 should use Core Strict. Im ruining 2023 Maya. Here is what my viewport looks like in the different modes. let me know if this looks right.

Viewport 2.0 with texutres and all lights set to ON. OpenGL Legacy

The docs, actually, may be outdated. Try switching to "DirectX11".

Hi hermit.crab , how can I plug in a Vray Material from the Library browser thru the Vray Material Override attribute of a basic Lambert? I only get options to add a node but how do I pick from the Library of materials in the browser?

          Thanks

No direct way, I'm afraid. You would need to add the shader to the scene first. Afterwards, it will appear in the Hypershade editor or Outliner. From there, simply drag and drop it over the V-Ray Material Override's slots.

If there's something not showing up in the viewport, it would be best for us to check what can be improved.
Can you point us to specific assets from the library that don't show in the viewport, sean_brown ?

You should stick to the default Core Compatibility (if I'm not mistaken) OpenGL mode, and we should fix whatever shaders don't show up in the viewport.
