  • Seeing what frame number is being rendered during an animation

Is it just me, or is there no feedback in Vray 5 that says which frame is being rendered when rendering a sequence inside of Maya, in the VFB? I have motion blur on, so the Maya timeline offsets to a few frames when its rendering, and I cant see any text feedback anywhere to see exactly what frame is being rendered. So for example, right now Maya says its rendering frame 96.60....but that means it could be 94, 95, 96, I dont know. This is especially true when Im re-rendering over existing frames, it makes it hard to know exactly where its at.

I hope Im just missing an obvious bit of info in the stats tab or somewhere else in the VFB, if so, can someone point me in the right direction? Wont be the first time Ive overlooked an obvious UI feature and come on the forums to whinge about it!

Assuming you're animating with whole frame numbers, the .6 in the example you give is just the substep sample. The number of frame substeps is dictated by the number of geometry samples you set in the motion blur options and doesn't really have anything to do with frame number. Other than that, normally when motion blur is enabled the timeline tends to show the frame number ahead of the frame currently rendering.

I perhaps need to do more testing, but I felt like it offsets the maya timeline depending on the shutter speed of the camera, so can offset quite a lot depending on that value. Im just surprised there isn't anywhere that I can see in Vray, in all the stats and feedback that says which frame is being rendered....so it might save down frame 10 for example, but the maya timeline was set to frame 13 during the render.

I don't have it open and not using day to day but could you not use the Stamp tool in the vfb?
Has a variable %frame. Maybe that shows it to you correctly?

Yep, that does it...cheers! I can lower the shutter speed to something comically low, the timeline offsets to something, but the VFB feedback now shows what frame is actually rendering. Thanks! I hadnt used the stamp tool in a long time, forgot it was there.
