  • Decal edges rough as!

When used with displacement turned on my edges are rough, using 4K texture.
Ive applied a displacement node to the shape but doesn't seem to effect it.

where's that magic box I need to tick to make it nice?

You probably will never get a clean line there though. You may need to have your texture at much much higher res without filtering, and very high subdivs.

Try to subdivide manually the surface in smaller polygons, it may help

Have been playing around with this a little more but still not getting anywhere near the example in the docs for decal displacement.
I have added more subdivs to the geo and a vray subdivision and displacement quality to shape node.

        Any ideas?

It's normal for displaced geometry to look like that when viewed from that close. Adding more subdivisions to the host mesh surely helps and also adjusting the global displacement parameters in the Render Settings. Even in the attached scene, if you place the camera close enough, you'll start noticing the imperfections (DOF helps there, too).
