To speed up scene loading, Maya has a checkbox in the file node to "Disable File Load". If it's checked, a texture won't show up in the viewport, but will still be used when rendering with their basic software renderer (not sure about Arnold, I don't have that installed). But V-Ray ignores the file when rendering, as well. Is there a reason for this behavior?
