  • Maya vertex paint - vray user colour - displacement

Im trying to replicate something I saw in a chaos group video where they used vertex painted maps to control displacements inside a vray layered texture. They used map channels in MAX, but it looks the Vray User colour is the way to go in Maya. I can get it to work fine for colour maps in a blend material. eg. paint a squiggley vertex map, take the name of that map "colorSet1" and put that in a vrayUserCOlour node. That can be used to create masks in blend materials, so far so good.

In chaos video though, they use those colour maps to control snow displacement, and where certain maps appear and blend on a snow bank. I cant seem to get any affect to show up from any vertex painted maps in Maya.

Is there a workflow method for this in Maya?

ok, it does work...cant use 2d displacement. Have to set it to normal. I also like how if you use viewport rendering, you can paint the vertex map and see the displacement blending in realtime.
