  • Multiple V-Ray Sun in the same scene

    Hi everybody,

    As per topic title, how can I create more than one v-ray sun in my scene?

    I tried a couple of ways.

    1) Clicking on the create sun shelf button a second time: this method doesn't give the expected result. I just creates another VRayGeoSun node that has no effects what so ever on the scene.

    2) Duplicating the existing "VRayGeoSun1Transform" and its content in the Outliner: this actually gives the xpected result in the VFB (it effectively creates another Sun), though it does not provide a visible gizmo in the viewport, which makes it impractical to manipulate.

    Anyone has any advice in this regard, please?

    Thank you very much.

    We already have this issue logged (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-11460). I'll talk to the project manager to bump its priority. For now, use the duplicating method, although the sun won't have a locator.

      Hey there, thanks for the information, I didn't even know it was a bug. I thought I was doing something dodgy.

      Anyway, for the time being I have solved the problem with a little workaround:

      1) Open another Maya instance.

      2) Create a V-Ray sun.

      3) Select that Sun in the Outliner.

      4) CTRL + C (or Edit --> Copy).

      5) Get back to your Maya scene and CTRL + V (or Edit --> Paste).

      Et voila. Job done. Only caveat is that you will have to rename the sun nodes according to whatever naming convention you are using (just for tidiness purposes), and get rid of that "pasted__" prefix that Maya adds every time you paste something (sooo annoying).

      I hope this helps as a temporary workaround for everyone.

      Thank you
