  • Distributed rendering and adaptive subdivision

Is there any plan to enable adaptive subdivision when using DR, or is this simply a hard technical impossibility?

I'm again running into the ironic problem of certain frames taking way longer rendering across multiple machines with DR, versus on only one box, because the renders get hung up on a few buckets. With DR, these buckets do not get subdivided and can increase render times massively. Switch to one machine and the final sticky buckets get all the procs thrown at them and are resolved far faster.

It would be great to have the best of both worlds.

    We are considering it.

Strangely, I have noticed that adaptive subdivision sometimes already DOES kick in when using DR. Is it limited to working with only one other machine currently? Likewise it occasionally seems to not work even without DR enabled.
