Fair play vlado - really looking forward to having a good version for XSI too. Knowing you can get the same look in different packages is a very big thing for me - vray is too big a factor overall to miss out on!

Nice work on the release Vlado (both Vlados that is) and the Chaos team.
You have opened up VRay to a huge audience of users and it will be interesting to see what happens with the pricing of renderman now.

eh? I haven't heard anything about that in years. Doesn't Sony own it now?

Generally a company licenses a copy of the api. Arnold could have killed off everything else about 5 years ago since it was so far ahead - Its programmer Marcoss Fajardo is a genius but has his own way of working, he'll work on a small obscure part of arnold rather than fixing uv mapping support for example. It was a bloody quick raytracer at the time but after a while Vray overtook it and had better max support overall. You're right though, he's never to be counted out.

i saw new beta test results. Its quite impressive. Sony is only partially involved as far as i understood.

Normally the core is one part with a studio licensing it and developing a gui for it.

Arnold is quickly becoming the standard renderer of Imageworks, but I am not sure if Marcos is still involved with Sony. Other rendering engines have come out of the core of Arnold, such as Maxwell, and Fryrender, which are sibling rendering engines of Arnold IMHO. All those Spaniards stay close you know...

Last I spoke with Marcos he is still a big believer in unbiased rendering, so fundamentally is a different way of approaching the problem.
