  • does vray for maya support ambient light?

does it work with the default maya ambient light? if so, how can you mimic global illumination with the combination of ambient occlusion and ambient light like in 3ds max?

Yes, V-Ray works with Maya's ambient light. You can plug the VRay Dirt texture in the Ambient light's color slot to achieve occlusion.

No, the August 2009 official build does not support textures for the color of the ambient light. The first service pack which is coming soon does support this, though.

I have used the maya ambient light with a vray dirt for AO GI tonal value but can not successfully get a proper lightSelect framebuffer. It just does not display how it should. Is there a work around for this?

Thanks for the pointer. This will be fixed. There is no work arond, ambient light acts just like regular point ligh for the lightSelect currently...

                      Hey Ivaylo,
2 questions-1. Is this incorporated into the linux build? 2. Does it work in standalone?

                      thanks..
