a way to remove checkered bg in shaders

When you have many shaders all vray, it becomes quite annoying and distracting having multiple checkers. I am wondering if there is a way to remobe the checker background?

thanks. At the very least match the checker to maya checker, which is smaller and not as bright.

I noticed this is in the latest builds, however is there a V-Ray variable or setting I can use to make this switch permanent rather than scene/Render Setting specific?
