  • How does the water texture work?

What should be connected where? (And when will the docs be online? )

  • #2
    Hello,
The VrayWater node is a texture node, which you can use as an input to the Displacement node.
The only Vray specific thing is that you should change the displacement type for the shape to "Vector Displacement".
You can access this parameter in the Vray's extra attributes:
Attribute editor -> Attributes -> VRay -> Displacement control -> Displacement type

Ive used it with normal displacement all the time, piping one of the colors to the displacement. Whats the difference? Is vector displ better?

At the moment only vector displacement will work.
We've implemented a wave choppiness parameter and this requires a 3d displacement.

Nice, thanks for the explanation. Any chance for some kind of viewport preview? Maybe just calculating a luminanceversion of the displacement for use as a bumpmap or something like that?

Okay, i'm playing around with that. But as soon as I use the choppy multiplier everything just breaks away, as you can see on the pictures. What am I doing wrong there?

Try smaller values, 10 or 100 times smaller.

Any chance of making VrayWater part of the Vray Create menu like the other features (like fur, etc)? Would make it so much easier to use

and yeah! it does look pretty awesome

Anybody succeded to create some wave pinch/choppiness?

Nope, it always breaks my meshes. BTW, one box is ca. 80x80x80 cm.

pechart: Try smaller values, until there is no choppiness at all, them choose a value that you like. If you can't fix it, please upload a test scene, so I can see what is wrong.
