    Why does the alpha channel of an element like Material_Select contain all objects? Wouldn't it be more useful if the alpha was just for the material?

    I know I can use various ID's and multi_matte to generate mattes, I'm just wondering what the logic is.

    It is just the regular alpha channel. At present, V-Ray does not support RGBA channels, only RGB (the alpha channel that you see in the V-Ray frame buffer is also a RGB channel). This will be implemented in one of the next builds though.

      Thanks Vlado. Compositing some of these elements will be more efficient if they have their own alphas.
