In the latest builds you can save a .vrimg file which gives you all the channels. Not sure if this went into SP1 or not, I have to check.

is it possible to do .exr though ? Because if I have a 10k render in one vrimg file it takes forever to convert to a .exr with the vrimg2exr tool.

You can use the -bufsize option to specify a greater conversion buffer; the default is 10 MB which may be too low for large images. You can try something like 50 or 100 MB.

Otherwise, right now it is not possible to write a multi-channel EXR file directly from the frame buffer (if you choose the .exr format, you will get one file per channel).
