  • Light Linking

Is Light Linking supported in Vray for Maya? I have a ambient light linked to a sky dome (and nothing else) but when rendering it alluminates everything.

Light linking should work - at least it does on a simple scene here. For you case you can also use a surface shader or a VRayLightMtl material for the dome.

    Best regards,

I noticed that in some case, the light linking only work if I select the light and the geometry then do lighting/shading -> break light links or make light links.
However when using the light linking editor, it doesn't work all the time.

I've mostly switched to light linking by shading group over geometry, as it seems quite a bit simpler and lighter in terms of the number of connections, etc. Maybe give that a try.

Jensi, could you explain a little more on how you do this process?

Yeah, if you use light-centric light linking, you can select your light in the left panel, and then left click on any shading groups in the right panel you don't want to be affected.
