ok we have given up on using Renderpal as we just cant get it going with vrscenes. Does anyone know of another dispatch rendering software that can be used with vrscenes?

I haven't try with vrscenes but Smedge should support it. You can send an email to Robin Scher at Uberware (robin@uberware.net) to confirm it.

Good thing with Smedge is that their support is very good and it is one of the cheapest solution.

deadline works great... we use it with standalone every day. Does a good job with other renderers, comps etc...

We also use RenderpalV2, but for now only with the maya-vray, not standalone. Would be a shame if they don't implement a proper vray standalone support. Did you contact the support? Usually they are very helpfull!
(What i like most in RP is the jobsubmission from within maya, btw.)

They do have Vray standalone! Just need to set it up like any other renderer.
Well I did a test at home with my 2 pc and I successfully managed to get RenderPal working just fine with maya .vrscene files so it must be a network issue in the studio.

Rebus Renderfarm uses Smedge aswell - Vray standalone modul is on the way (otherwise use maya batch or why you insist of standalone ?)

do you not have to use standalone to render out the vrscene file?

Are you aware that you can render directly Maya files. In order to do that your farm need Maya to be installed (no need to be licensed).

ahhhhhh!!! does it need to be installed on each client or just the server?

It needs to be installed on every client. But since Maya 2010, you can create a deployment which make it very easy (one click to install).
Also Vray need to be install fully not just the standalone.
Another thing to be aware is the maya pref needs to match your machine, especially for the z/Y up option.
