is it possible to install only the RT as some separate installer in the future? Reason I ask is we try to keep the core version of vray the same for all our machines because we want our workstations to match our renderfarm. now we really would love to test all the new features in the beta RT but if we keep upgrading our vray with the nightly to get access to the newest features. we worry that will cause us to constantly upgrade the renderfarm as well to prevent any sort of incompatibility issues.
Unfortunately it is not possible to separate them; V-Ray RT in Maya is an integral part of V-Ray for Maya itself so that it can use the same translator portion. Perhaps installing it on a few machines just for testing would be best.
You can download V-Ray RT for Maya from the download section on our site; as for bugs - please post them either here, or email them to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com
Thanks for the info Vlado. I'll mention what we are doing over here:
We are using Maya 2010 in production/farm as well as vray SP1 on said farm.
most of us have 2011 installed, but not using it for production. So we installed the beta/nightlies on 2011. Do our RT lighting there, then save the file and open in 2010 (with check version off), for production output.
I'm guessing the differences shouldn't cause problems, and so far, it has worked for me.
