  • fumeFX containers as proxy?

    Hi
I was wondering if this would be a useful work flow to do the following:

    - do all your animation in maya
    - transfer data to max, do fluids using fumefx
    - export vray proxies out of max
    - render with vray stand alone via maya and read in the fume proxies.

this way you would never get any mismatch in motionblur and other possible hickups between software.

Is this at all possible? Has anybody tried this before? I don't have vray for max, would it require a full vray license to export proxies from max?

    Thanks

It might be possible, but you will have to write a texture that reads the density/emission/color data from the FumeFX grid and passes it to the VRayEnvironmentFog shader. From what I understand, there is a FumeFX SDK that would allow you to do that.

You don't need a V-Ray license to export the proxies; a license is only required for rendering.

    Best regards,

Great that you can export proxies from max without license!
Not so great that I have to use the SDK to get fume to render. (I can barely manage mel...

Does Vray not render Fume in the Max version "out of the box"?

Yes, in 3ds Max it works right away. But I thought you wanted to render in the standalone? Also, proxies only deal with geometric mesh data, not with atmospheric effects.
