  • Render Elements/ MultiMatte??

    Hi Guys,

I have some questions regarding the multimatte element:
what does the "Affect Matte objects" mean exactly??

    and for all elements:
and what is the "Out connect" attribute for?

    thanks..

The "Affect matte objects" option is used when you have objects with either VRayWrapperMtl material of VRayObjectProperties attached and with the "matte" option enabled. It specifies whether the multi-matte element will include such objects, if their ID matches the one specified in the render element.

As for the "outConnect" attribute, I think it was used to connect the render element to the V-Ray settings node, so that they are not deleted when optimizing the scene size.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Thank you Vlado that's clear.

btw.. Do you (or anybody else) maybe have any pointer's/links/tutorials to workflows on how to comp vray renders?
and then especially focused on using and creating (vray) RGB mattes to collorcorrect or mask in comp (i use Nuke)
I have seen the help chapter and this was helpful. It's mainly mattes i'm struggling with...

Basically you just need to insert your CC tool (like a grade, maybe) and connect the "mask" input to the desired mask image. Then switch the mask channel of the grade to the desired one (like rgba.red) to have the grade only affect the red masked areas.

well it's not that I don't understand how it works in comp..
I just switched from mental gay to vray and I find vray works a bit different so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible on the "creating" part of rgb mattes, holdout mattes etc...
thanks for your quick reply though, sorry if i wasn't clear enough..
(i see now i did say "using", sorry for that)

            Haha, okay
So i bet you already know that you create the RGB mattes by applying objectIDs or materialIDs with vray attriibutes or object property nodes. Then just create the multiMatte and assign the desired ID values to the specific channels.
To create a holdout add a object properties node to the desired object and tick on "Matte surface". Set the alpha setting to -1, that should do the same as a "UseBackground" from Maya. Or again a misunderstanding here?

Indeed I am familiar with the multimattes, objectIDs and materialIDs,
but the matte surface and alpha -1 trick did the trick! so thanks!
              again vray amazes me! niice

              (VRayMtlWrapper is my friend!! )
