  • Translucency types in vray materials?

    Hi, can any1 tell me where can i find the translucency types(hard wax,hybrid model) in vray for maya. Iam having trouble in creating leaf shader for trees and plants, any solution to this wud be gr8..... Thanx

    if you reduce the refraction glossiness, then you translucency.
    For leaf or grass, the 2sided material is great. you can control the transparency with a map that work very well. have a look there: http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/200...torial-part-2/. It is for max but easy to translate to Maya.

      yup, 2-sided for thin translucency, and use the fastSSS2 for subsurface materials. It has presets for skin, milk, marble, etc. You can also use the vray material for some gummi type tranlucency by lowering the grefraction gloss really low, and turning refraction color halfway down (with a diffuse color other than black).

        Hi, thanx, gr8 tutorial by the way, but the 2sided material resulted in strange splotches more like a bright circles everywhere. It was more apparent in low lit situation, dont kno if its the prob of render settings(IRR,LC) or the material itself, do i need to turn on the sss option in vray material while using the 2sided material...
